Williams-Sonoma Shifts Execs’ Responsibilities to Support Marketing and Global Business

Williams-Sonoma Inc. is taking advantage of the long tenures and broad experience of its executive team, promoting from within to strengthen its portfolio of Pottery Barn brands and provide greater support for the retailer’s marketing and global business.

Pottery Barn President Marta Benson will expand her current role to CEO of Pottery Barn Brands, reporting to CEO Laura Alber, adding responsibility for the Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Teen brands. During her 12 years with the company, Benson has positioned the brand with differentiated design offerings, amplified sustainability as a core value and driven the brand’s digital transformation.

Michelle Hummel has been promoted to lead Williams-Sonoma’s global business after serving as the interim leader since July 2022. Hummel has held leading roles in merchandising and business development during her 24 years with the company, including serving as a key leader of its global business for the past 10 years.

These promotions come just days after the retailer named Day Kornbluth as the new President of its West Elm brand. This recent spate of executive suite changes began in July 2022 when Williams-Sonoma promoted Felix Carbullido from Chief Marketing Officer to President of its namesake brand.
