As it celebrates its 50th anniversary in the U.S., Aldi is expanding its footprint with plans to open more than 180 stores by the end of this year —  and further expansion is in the cards in through 2030.

With the addition of these new stores, Aldi will operate a total of nearly 2,800 locations by the end of 2026, and the value supermarket is aiming for 3,200 stores by the end of 2028. Store openings this year will include 10 new locations in the Phoenix market and Aldi’s entrance into its 40th state — Maine — with a new store in Portland.

One in three U.S. households shopped at Aldi this past year, and in 2026 we’re focused on making it even easier for customers to shop our aisles first,” said Atty McGrath, CEO of Aldi U.S., who took on the role in June 2025, in a statement. “That means bringing Aldi to even more neighborhoods, upgrading our website and planning additional distribution centers to keep our shelves stocked with the products our shoppers love.”

The retailer was already on a growth trajectory in the U.S.17 million new customers visited Aldi stores in 2025 — and the company doesn’t plan to slow down after this year. Five-year plans include three new distribution centers (DCs) and major expansion in more nascent regions, including:

  • Expansion into the state of Colorado within the next five years, with more than 50 stores planned for the Denver and Colorado Springs markets, supported by an accompanying distribution center;
  • Plans to add a total of 40 new stores in the Phoenix market (including the 10 that will be added in 2026) by the end of 2030;
  • Doubling the store count in Las Vegas, which Aldi first entered in 2025 with four stores, by 2030; and
  • Converting close to 80 additional Southeastern Grocers locations to the Aldi format. Aldi acquired Southeastern Grocers in 2023 and already has converted and opened nearly 90 stores, with plans to convert more than 200 in total by the end of 2027.

To increase its operational capacity, the grocer also is planning three new DCs in:

  • Baldwin, Fla. (projected 2027);
  • Goodyear, Ariz. (projected 2028); and
  • Aurora, Colo. (projected 2029).

Finally, Aldi also plans to upgrade its digital experience in 2026, with a full website redesign aimed at simplifying the shopping experience. The new website is set to launch early this year and will include tailored product recommendations for easy re-ordering, expanded nutritional information, shoppable recipes and built-in tools to support shoppers’ meal planning.

Shopping Aldi for curbside pickup also will be easier, with the new website offering more personalized product recommendations to help ensure curbside customers not only find the essentials they’re looking for but also can shop for new, trending products. Aldi touted the fact that its curbside orders are handpicked by trained Aldi team members who know the stores and products.

Through the new site, customers also will be able to choose home delivery, enabled through continued and expanded delivery partnerships with Instacart, DoorDash and Uber Eats.

“These strategic investments are all about making sure customers can continue to count on us for the quality, affordable groceries and enjoyable shopping experience they love,” added McGrath. “As we look ahead to our next 50 years in the U.S., we’ll continue to earn shopper loyalty by staying true to what’s made Aldi successful: keeping things simple and delivering real value.”

In addition to opening more than 225 new stores in 2025, Aldi also refreshed the labeling of its private-label brands with its first-ever namesake brand to make them more recognizable to customers, a signal of the retailer’s growing affinity among U.S. shoppers.
