Thomas Netzer, COO of Wayfair, will step down from his role at the end of 2024 after six years with the furniture retailer. As part of this shift, Wayfair will further integrate customer- and supplier-focused activities with supply chain capabilities under the leadership of current Chief Commercial Officer Jon Blotner, who joined Wayfair in 2016. On Jan. 1, 2025, Blotner will assume the role of President, Commercial and Operations, overseeing these combined functions as part of an integrated organizational model.
“We have a tremendous opportunity to bolster relationships and deliver even greater value across our customer and supplier experiences with our world-class logistics,” said Niraj Shah, CEO, Co-Chairman and Co-founder of Wayfair in a statement. “This integration will strengthen our decision-making and enhance our ability to lead in the market.”
Shah praised Netzer’s contributions to the company: “Thomas’ impact on Wayfair was transformative, helping establish the company as synonymous with fast shipping, exceptional customer service and cost-efficiency,” he said “Under Thomas’ leadership, we expanded our network of fulfillment centers in North America and Europe and enhanced our CastleGate logistics offering, enabling lower cost and faster delivery.”
In May 2024 Wayfair opened its first large-format store in the Chicago suburb of Wilmette, Ill., marking a brick-and-mortar milestone for the digitally native retailer. Wayfair introduced its paid loyalty program Wayfair Rewards last month, offering 5% back in rewards across Wayfair’s brands and free shipping regardless of order size for a $29 annual fee.
