PacSun is joining the burgeoning resale trend with its new Pre-Loved Pac offering. Consumers will be encouraged to clean out their closets to earn PacSun credits and to shop for “pre-loved” (a.k.a. gently used) items through the retailer’s website.
The white label program is powered by the ThredUP Resale-as-a-Service solution and includes the digital shop, clean-out program and cash offerings — all elements designed to encourage customers to rotate their wardrobes sustainably, buy secondhand and receive credit to repeat the process.
“At PacSun, we are committed to digital innovation and delivering services that our customers will love and use,” said Mimi Ruiz, VP of eCommerce at PacSun in a statement. “Our community already embraced sustainable fashion, and we wanted to incorporate that into our brand experience. By leveraging ThredUP’s proprietary technology, we were able to get our resale program up and running quickly, bringing value to our customers while also reducing our carbon footprint.”
Consumers can fill the ThredUP Clean Out Kits with women’s and kids’ apparel, shoes and accessories from any brand and ship them to ThredUP for free using a prepaid shipping label. Customers using the service get paid for these items in the form of a PacSun gift card, and any ThredUP seller can convert their ThredUP credit into PacSun credit at a value 10% higher than the cash payment option.
“PacSun understands its customers on a deeper level than most brands I’ve worked with,” said James Reinhart, CEO of ThredUP in a statement. “Incorporating resale into its business made sense for multiple reasons but mostly because it delivers a service that its customers are already tapping into. With PacSun’s Gen Z customer base, resale is not only an ideal fit for the company’s demographic but it is also an untapped growth channel for the business.”
