Office Depot Expands Delivery Options Through Uber Partnership

Office Depot has made a deal with Uber to deliver business, office and school essentials nationwide through Uber Eats. The service will be available at more than 900 Office Depot and OfficeMax stores and cover items from ink and toner to backpacks and binders. Uber One members will benefit from no delivery fee and a 5% discount on all Office Depot orders with a $15 minimum purchase.

“With the start of a new school year and new busy schedules for many, we’re excited to team up with Uber Eats to provide students, parents, teachers, small business owners and home office workers with an additional on-demand delivery option to help them get the tools they need, when they need them,” said Jamie Columbus, VP of Ecommerce for Office Depot in a statement.

The partnership follows Office Depot parent company The ODP Corporation’s rejection of a proposal to split up the Office Depot and OfficeMax businesses or pursue a sale. The retailer’s Board of Directors unanimously determined that divesting the consumer business was not in its best interest at the time, though it did not rule out a future spinoff.

This is not Office Depot’s first foray into delivery. In March 2022, Office Depot partnered with DoorDash to offer on-demand delivery from more than 1,000 Office Depot and OfficeMax stores across the U.S. with a selection of 10,000 items.

Uber has been building up its delivery and transportation options across the retail industry. In May 2022, the ridesharing service started providing on-demand grocery delivery for Grocery Outlet and free medical transport in underserved areas through a partnership with CVS Health. Uber Eats also has improved the customer experience by adding the ability to place orders when grocery stores aren’t open for later delivery; live tracking of orders from store to door; and easier product replacement capabilities.
