He put Carol Burnett in the famous curtain-rod dress that she “saw in the window and couldn’t resist,” and was largely responsible for turning Cher into the glitter queen we know today. And if you’re saying to yourself, “Who are these people?”, none other than Taylor Swift also has worn Bob Mackie creations.
Now Mackie has partnered with JCPenney for a limited-time Mackie: Bob Mackie apparel collection, with all pieces priced under $300 and available in sizes 2-24. Each piece includes Mackie touches such as sculpted shoulders and dramatic front slits as well as vibrant color palettes.
“At JCPenney, our strategy is rooted in delivering style that inspires without compromising on value,” said Michelle Wlazlo, CEO of JCPenney in comments provided to Retail TouchPoints. “Partnering with the Bob Mackie brand bridges high fashion with the value JCPenney is known for, giving customers the chance to experience their own red-carpet moment.”
The collection, now available online and in select stores, includes mini and long dresses crafted from luxe velvets and shimmering ombré sequins, bold jewel-toned cocktail dresses with intricate beading and marabou feather accents, and modern takes on classic silhouettes such as a sleeveless printed taffeta A-line, a halter jumpsuit with keyhole cutouts and a sequin gown with ruched detailing.
JCPenney has been seeking to raise its profile in the apparel sector via strategic partnerships. In September 2024 JCPenney launched an adaptive apparel line with disabled writer and athlete Jamey Perry, and in April 2025 the retailer partnered with plus-size model Ashley Graham on a namesake apparel collection.
In January 2025 JCPenney joined SPARC Group to form Catalyst Brands.
