Supermarket chain Hy-Vee has optimized its distribution and transportation network with the help of three solutions from Manhattan Associates: the solution providers’ Warehouse Management System (WMS), Transportation Management System (TMS) and Demand Forecasting and Inventory Optimization (DFIO) module.
Employee-owned Hy-Vee, which operates more than 570 stores across nine Midwestern states, now runs its inbound and outbound transportation on the Manhattan TMS, helping ensure maximum cube utilization on outbound loads as well as efficiently transferring goods from inbound to outbound trucks using the TMS’ advanced cross-docking functionality.
The WMS has helped Hy-Vee optimize slotting and overall warehouse efficiency, which has helped to improve productivity across the retailer’s three primary warehouses over the past year. Hy-Vee’s use of the DFIO helped the retailer during the COVID pandemic, using its machine learning capabilities to help distinguish between regular ongoing product demand and the unusual demand spikes generated by the pandemic.
“Manhattan’s WMS, TMS and DFIO solutions have transformed our supply chain operations, enabling us to meet the evolving demands of our customers,” said Matt Beenblossom, SVP of Distribution at Hy-Vee in a statement. “Manhattan’s end-to-end supply chain solutions also have allowed us to grow significantly while maximizing efficiencies within our existing network.”

Hy-Vee has been investing in a major digital transformation during the past few years; in July 2024 the retailer also added digital shelf tags and post-purchase offers to its shopper journey.
