BJ’s Wholesale Club will raise its annual membership fees by $5 to $60 per year, and its Club+ fee will rise $10 to $120 per year, effective Jan. 1, 2025. The increases are the first in seven years. BJ’s also has added a new benefit for Club+ members, including BJ’s One+ Mastercard cardholders: two free same-day deliveries on eligible orders of $50 or more during each annual membership period.
The announcement comes as the retailer reported that its membership fee income for its Q3, which ended Nov. 2, 2024, rose to $115 million, up from the $106.1 million generated in the same period the previous year. Membership income also rose during the first nine months of the fiscal year, to $339.5 million, up from $312.3 million during the same period the previous year. BJ’s attributed the increases to “strength in membership acquisition, retention and higher tier membership penetration across both new and existing clubs,” according to a company statement. BJ’s membership base of 7.5 million customers also continues to grow.
The warehouse club retailer had a strong Q3, with net sales rising 3.4% compared to the same period in 2023, from $4.81 billion to $4.98 billion. Comparable store sales increased 1.5% year over year; excluding gasoline sales, they climbed 3.8% year over year.
“Our third quarter results demonstrate the combination of great value and strong execution,” said Bob Eddy, Chairman and CEO of BJ’s Wholesale Club in a statement. “We delivered robust membership growth and hit a milestone of 7.5 million members. Our value proposition continues to resonate in new and existing markets.”
