Target Expands Drive-Up Returns Service to All 2,000 Stores

Target is rolling out its Drive Up Returns service nationwide following a successful pilot test. The retailer expects to upgrade all of its nearly 2,000 locations by the end of the summer in a bid to improve omnichannel convenience for its customers.

Drive Up Returns lets shoppers return any item, including those purchased online, directly to a Target associate without leaving their car. There’s no charge for the service, and customers can return any unopened item within 90 days of purchase or up to a year for Target-owned brands.

“Our journey to expand our fulfillment options starts with making it easier for our guests to shop with us,” said Mark Schindele, EVP and Chief Stores Officer at Target in a statement. “That’s why we’re launching Drive Up Returns. Allowing our guests to process a return from the comfort of their car underscores our commitment to helping our guests shop — and return — however they choose.”

Target has been emphasizing convenience with features such as Drive Up, Order Pickup and Same-Day Delivery with Shipt, as well as a “Forgot Something?” button on the Target app that lets shoppers add forgotten items to an order after it has been placed. The retailer also has expanded its Drive Up experience to include Starbucks orders at select stores, enabling shoppers to have a food or beverage purchase delivered alongside their order.

Target is aiming to operate more than 15 sortation centers across the country to enable flexible and efficient last mile options that build on its store-as-hub strategy.
