Target Expands Curbside Convenience with Starbucks Ordering Option at Nearly 250 More Stores

Target is adding Starbucks options to its Drive Up curbside service at 240 stores in California, Delaware, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington and West Virginia. Shoppers can place orders and have their food and beverages delivered to them alongside their other items.

Starbucks orders can be placed after the Target customer receives confirmation that their standard order is ready. At that time the customer can indicate that they are en route via the Target app and place an order from the full Starbucks Café menu. Once they have made their selection, an “Add for Drive Up” option will appear to let them pay and have it added to the rest of the order.

Once the customer indicates “I’m on my way,” a Starbucks associate will begin preparing the order using packaging that ensures safe transport, such as drink stoppers to securely seal lid openings. The customer can then park in the designated Drive Up area and tap “I’m here” in the Target app to have their entire order delivered to their car.

Target has been building the Starbucks with Drive Up app functionality since late 2021, citing customer demand for the option. The service was piloted at several stores before being fine-tuned and expanded based on feedback prior to the initial launch. Target plans to continue to enhance the offering in the future.

The addition of Starbucks to Target’s curbside options is part of a wider enhancement of these services. The retailer also is planning to roll out curbside returns and expanding its “backup item” functionality to additional product categories to help ensure shoppers can get what they need.
