“There aren’t enough ways to say thank you to all of you who put yourselves out there for your community,” writes R&J of Brick, New Jersey, on www.EssentialThanks.com. “Your sacrifice is not unnoticed and is appreciated more than you will ever know.”
This is one of thousands of messages posted on the web site that ShopRite recently launched to help people express gratitude to essential workers on the front lines during the pandemic — grocery store associates, warehouse workers, truck drivers, healthcare providers, first responders and others.
In addition to brightening the day for these workers, each message posted on the site, and each post tagged #EssentialThanks on Instagram and Twitter, will trigger a $1 donation from ShopRite to regional food banks involved in COVID-19 relief efforts. ShopRite will donate up to $500,000 during the campaign, which runs through June 30.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has put the spotlight on what it takes to keep our communities safe and healthy every day and in times of crisis,” said Joe Colalillo, Chairman and CEO of Wakefern Food Corp., the retailer-owned cooperative that includes the ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, The Fresh Grocer and Dearborn Market supermarket brands, in a statement. Donations will go to food banks throughout Wakefern’s trading area of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland. This sum is in addition to $1 million that Wakefern, through its ShopRite Partners In Caring Fund, has already donated to regional food banks.
