Primark Aims to Extend Clothing’s Lifecycle by Bringing Repair Workshops to the U.S.

Primark has conducted nearly 400 free “Love it for Longer” clothing repair workshops in its European stores since introducing the program in 2022 as part of the Primark Cares sustainability strategy. Now U.S. customers in the New York City and Washington, D.C. areas will learn simple mending and upcycling techniques such as fixing hems or adding buttons — no experience required.

“Bringing our free Love it for Longer repair workshops across the pond to the U.S. has been a long-held ambition for us,” said Lynne Walker, Director of Primark Cares in a statement. “We know people want to make their clothes last longer, but often just need a little help getting started. These workshops give them that — because sustainability shouldn’t be out of reach for anyone.”

The first workshops are being held at Primark’s Staten Island Mall store, and DC-area shoppers can sign up to attend workshops at Primark Tyson’s Corner Center on June 12. Workshop attendees leave with a complimentary sewing kit, repair booklet and reusable tote bag to keep them stitching at home.

“We know that educating customers on repair is a small step in our journey to become a more sustainable business, but through our scale, we can reach many people and hopefully spark some change in how people care for and wear their clothes,” said Kevin Tulip, Primark’s U.S. President in a statement.

Primark also shared data about the progress of Primark Cares: Today, 66% of Primark clothing is made from recycled or sustainably sourced materials, with the goal of reaching 100% of clothing by 2030. Additionally, Primark’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions fell 21% in 2024 compared to the previous year and are 52% lower than the 2019 baseline.
