Walgreens has hired a new SVP and Chief Commercial Officer to help build its B2B healthcare services division.
Jason Stenta, who most recently served as SVP, Payer Sales for Optum, a UnitedHealth Group company, has nearly two decades of healthcare experience, specifically with helping lead large organizations and cross-functional teams through periods of growth and change. He also held various leadership roles at CVS Health for a decade.
“Jason is a strategic, relationship-driven healthcare leader, and I’m proud to welcome him to the team,” said Mary Langowski, EVP and President, U.S. Healthcare, at Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) in a statement. “His experience with complex healthcare organizations, along with his strong understanding of market dynamics, regulatory requirements, and customer needs, will be invaluable as we strengthen our relationships and solutions in healthcare.”
Focusing on Retail Pharmacy Strengths
As an integrated healthcare, pharmacy and retail business, Walgreens serves millions of customers and patients daily. In his new role, Stenta will not only support the commercialization of B2B healthcare services built on the company’s core assets, but also enhance partnerships with payers, health system providers and life sciences companies.

“This is an exciting time at Walgreens, and I’m thrilled to have this unique opportunity to contribute,” said Stenta in a statement. “As we look to expand services, and provide partners with healthcare solutions they really need, I believe Walgreens core strengths and services in retail pharmacy will be key in how we’re able to do this.”
This is Walgreens’ latest executive hire to support its turnaround efforts. In August 2024, the retailer hired Party City veteran Tracey Koller as SVP and Chief Merchandising Officer, and Sharmila Sudhakar as Group VP and Head of Walgreens Digital Commerce. The retailer’s plans, which were unveiled in June 2024 after WBA cut its profit forecast for fiscal 2024 and CEO Tim Wentworth announced it would close “a significant number of underperforming stores.” Walgreens is now focused on improving the core retail pharmacy business, “which is central to the future of healthcare,” Wentworth said.
