With rival retailers Joann and Party City no more, Michaels has added shop-in-shops chainwide that spotlight their product categories. Michaels purchased the intellectual property and private label brands of Joann in June 2025 following its bankruptcy; now, The Knit & Sew Shop, featuring both Joann and Michaels’ logos, offers a curated assortment of threads, sewing notions and yarn, with fabric available in more than 840 stores and plans to expand to 250 more locations. In-store services such as fabric cutting tables will be available in more than 650 Michaels stores by mid-October.
Michaels also has expanded space in each store for The Party Shop to accommodate 700 new products, from DIY balloon arch kits and tableware to themed paper goods and accessories. All stores also feature a dedicated Balloon Bar, and Michaels has lowered the price for in-store birthday parties from $299 to a starting price of $149.
In April 2025 Michaels expanded its party supply assortment as it stepped into the gap left by the demise of Party City; other retailers, including Walgreens, have expanded their party assortments for the same purpose.
“The launch of The Knit & Sew Shop and The Party Shop at Michaels is a transformative step forward on our mission to become the go-to destination for fueling creativity and celebration,” said David Boone, CEO of Michaels in a statement. “We are proud to offer an unmatched experience for creating and celebrating through our expansive product assortments, enhanced services, lower price points and seamless in-store and online shopping options.”
In July 2024 Michaels added DoorDash and Uber Eats to its delivery options, joining Instacart.
