Burberry has appointed Daniel Lee to the role of Chief Creative Officer starting Oct. 3, 2022. He will report to CEO Jonathan Akeroyd, who began leading the luxury brand in April 2022.

Lee will replace former creative chief Riccardo Tisci, who was appointed to the role in March 2018 following his career with Givenchy from 2005 to 2017. Tisci’s departure was announced only days after the presentation of his Spring/Summer 2023 collection in London, which was his last for Burberry.

As the London-headquartered brand’s Chief Creative Officer, Lee will manage all Burberry collections. His first collection for Burberry will debut during London Fashion Week in February 2023.

From 2018 to 2021, Lee worked with Bottega Veneta as the Italian luxury brand’s Creative Director. Prior to his work with Bottega Veneta, Lee was the Director of Ready-to-Wear Design at Celine. His career has also included roles at Maison Margiela, Balenciaga and Donna Karan.

“Daniel is an exceptional talent with a unique understanding of today’s luxury consumer and a strong record of commercial success, and his appointment reinforces the ambitions we have for Burberry,” said Akeroyd in a statement. “I am excited about working closely with him, and I am confident he will have the impact we are aiming for in this next phase, supported by our talented and experienced teams.”

While there is no word regarding Tisci’s next steps, the designer’s departure comes amid a period of C-suite transition across retail. On Sept. 23, 2022, Burberry revealed that Chief Operating and Financial Officer Julie Brown would step down at the close of the fiscal year on April 1, 2023, after six years with the company for “an opportunity outside of the luxury industry.” No successor for Brown has been announced.
