The apple doesn’t fall far from the grocer’s tree. Nicole Piccinini Pesco, daughter of the late Robert “Bob” Piccinini, longtime owner and chairman of the 206-store Save Mart chain, has been promoted to CEO. In her new role, Pesco will aim to reinvigorate and accelerate the market share of the company’s Save Mart, Lucky and FoodMaxx banners.
Pesco grew up in the grocery business and worked her way up, from being a service clerk in the stores on her summer vacations into roles of increasing responsibility. Her most recent position was Co-President and Chief Strategy and Branding Officer, where she oversaw marketing, merchandising strategies and strategic execution.
In July 2015, Pesco led Save Mart’s launch of its first new concept store format in more than 20 years with the introduction of Lucky California in the Bay Area. Under Pesco’s watch, the design of the new store format was the culmination of several years of market research and operational restructuring. She sits on the Save Mart CARES Foundation Board of Directors, as well as the Board of the California Grocers Association.
