Belk has named Don Hendricks to its CEO position on a permanent basis following his interim appointment in May 2022. Hendricks joined the Southeastern U.S. department store retailer in 2016 as its COO, and in 2019 Hendricks became responsible for Belk’s stores business. During his time as President and COO, Hendricks drove Belk to enhance its omnichannel capabilities and navigated the retailer through the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Through my work with Belk’s board, leadership team and talented associates, I believe the company is well positioned to build on its current momentum and achieve success now and in the future,” said Hendricks in a statement. “Together, we will capitalize on the demand for great products at great prices, which Belk has long been known for, all while maintaining our unwavering commitment to customers and communities.”
Prior to working with Belk, Hendricks served in COO and CIO roles at Hot Topic and Torrid, spending five years with the companies. Hendricks also served as CIO at The Gymboree Corporation, a company that he worked with for more than 13 years.
Hendricks was appointed as Belk’s Interim CEO upon the departure of former Chief Executive Nir Patel, who left the retailer to join GameStop as COO in May 2022. Patel had held the CEO role since July 2021 when Lisa Harper transitioned from the company’s Chief leadership role to the Executive Chair of the Belk Board of Directors.
