What Simon Said About the Expansion

Simon, a real estate investment trust that owns and operates shopping, dining, entertainment and mixed-use destinations, said the expansion is part of a broader strategy to attract sought-after tenants.

“Muji has cultivated a loyal following around the world through its distinctive approach to design and everyday living,” said Zachary Beloff, VP and National Director of Business Development at Simon, in a statement. “We’re excited to grow our relationship with the brand and introduce its shopping experience to more communities. These openings reflect our continued focus on bringing sought-after retailers and differentiated experiences to our premier destinations.”

About Muji in the United States

Founded in Japan, Muji is known for simple, functional design and no-frills branding. Its U.S. stores carry apparel, home goods, kitchenware, stationery, travel essentials and other lifestyle products. The brand currently operates 13 U.S. locations, with stores concentrated in New York, as well as locations in Massachusetts and Oregon. The four new Simon properties would bring that count to 17.

“We are excited to work with Simon on this next phase of Muji’s expansion in the United States,” said Richard Rappaport, President of Muji USA, in a statement. “As we open these four new locations, we look forward to introducing more customers to Muji’s philosophy while creating welcoming spaces that support everyday living in meaningful ways.”
