Nike has made significant structural and personnel changes at the top of its organization. The footwear company’s Consumer, Product and Brand leadership, formerly under the direction of President Heidi O’Neill, will now be divided into three distinct areas: Consumer and Sport, Marketing, and Product Creation, inclusive of Innovation and Design.
All these roles will report to Nike President and CEO Elliott Hill, who took this position in September 2024. The company veteran had retired in 2020 but returned to replace retiring CEO John Donahoe. As a result of this reorganization, O’Neill is retiring after 26 years, but will stay on in an advisory capacity until September 2025.
New leadership appointments, effective immediately, include:
- Amy Montagne, a 20-year Nike veteran who was most recently VP and General Manager of Global Women’s, has been promoted to President of Nike;
- 27-year Nike veteran Phil McCartney, formerly VP of Footwear, has been promoted to EVP, Chief Innovation, Design and Product Officer, responsible for how Nike, Jordan and Converse designs and creates products for athletes around the globe;
- Former Chief Marketing Officer Nicole Graham has been promoted to EVP, Chief Marketing Officer; and
- Tom Clarke, a 45-year Nike veteran who is currently strategic advisor to the CEO, has assumed the new role of Chief Growth Initiatives Officer.
Nike also underwent a major C-suite shakeup in November 2023, naming new executives to the top jobs in marketing, design, innovation and technology. In January 2024 Nike announced plans to cut $2 billion in costs in the coming three years and warned of layoffs as it looks to combat heightened competition and slackening sales.
