VeriFone Systems, a provider of electronic payment solutions, and Lenovo, a PC, tablet and smartphone manufacturer, have partnered to develop an enterprise-class mPOS platform powered by Windows 8 Pro.
The new mPOS offering integrates ThinkPad Tablet 2 hardware with VeriFone secure PAYware Mobile technology. Because the joint solution was designed on the Windows 8 Pro operating system, retailers should be able to easily transition to mPOS and integrate the platform with existing business infrastructure and operations, according to a company press release.
The ThinkPad Tablet 2 mPOS platform allows employees to scan product barcodes and complete credit card-based transactions from anywhere within a brick-and-mortar store. To ensure end-to-end encryption and data protection for mag-stripe credit cards, signature debit and store specialty transactions, retailers can integrate different security solutions, such as McAfee and VeriFone VeriShield Total Protect.

“Retailers are increasingly eager to adopt mPOS but have been frustrated by proprietary platforms that ignore their major investments in the Windows-based point-of-sale systems on which they run their businesses,” said Joe Mach, SVP and General Manager of Vertical Solutions for VeriFone. “VeriFone will continue to work with industry leaders such as Lenovo to provide mobile payment and mobile POS platforms that work with any smart device retailers want to employ.”
