Stein Mart is empowering its associates with mobile POS and endless aisle capabilities through a partnership with Mad Mobile. Workers at all 283 stores will now carry Apple iPads designed to help them cut down checkout times and improve the overall customer experience.
Transactions processed through the mobile Concierge solution during the program’s pilot were responsible for both higher AOVs and increased enrollment in the retailer’s private label credit card. The iPads also helped keep line lengths down during Stein Mart’s annual 12-hour sale.
“Concierge enabled us to upgrade our legacy point-of-sale systems to meet the needs of today’s shopper,” said Sharon Hart, CIO at Stein Mart in a statement. “We selected Mad Mobile because of the strong results Concierge has produced for other major retailers and their proven ability to extend legacy POS systems to mobile devices. By renovating our POS, instead of replacing it, we saved significant costs and minimized operational risk.”

Stein Mart has good reasons to reduce costs: the company’s stock is trading at under $1 a share and has been in danger of being delisted since July, according to a filing with the SEC. The retailer has until January 6, 2020 to boost its stock price over the $1 mark.
However, Stein Mart also has implemented two other initiatives that could help reverse its fortunes. The retailer now houses Amazon Lockers at 200 stores, driving additional traffic from Amazon customers, and the company has adopted the Oracle Merchandise Planning Solution to better manage its inventory and consolidate the planning process across its stores and warehouses.
