[Update as of 4/8/2024] Uniqlo has revealed locations for the additional 11 stores it plans to open this year, including five in Texas, a new state for the fast fashion apparel retailer, and six additional stores in California. According to an interview in the Wall Street Journal, Yoshihide Shindo, Chief Executive of Uniqlo USA, said that the retailer needed time to understand U.S. shoppers and for those shoppers to understand Uniqlo. Shindo added that Uniqlo has invested more in building brand awareness and in understanding Americans’ tastes, including making cropped T-shirts a staple in the U.S. even though they are less popular in overseas markets where the retailer operates.
Original story begins:
Uniqlo will open more than 20 stores in the U.S. and Canada in 2024, including debuts in new markets for the fast fashion retailer. In May 2023, Uniqlo, which opened its first North American location in 2005, revealed its plans to reach 200 North American locations by 2027.
The retailer, which will be focusing the new store openings in the eastern and western regions of both countries, has slated nine debuts for spring 2024:
