Sam’s Club will open its 37,000-square-foot design thinking studio, dubbed Clubhouse, this summer on the retailer’s Bentonville, Ark. campus. Sam’s Club, which first announced plans for the studio in June 2022, will use Clubhouse as an innovation engine for testing products and designing new, enhanced experiences for members and associates.

Additionally, the retailer has digitized the process for ordering cakes, which members had identified as a pain point in their shopper experience. Sam’s Club has introduced the functionality at 30 locations and plans to roll it out chainwide throughout 2024.

“Now members can customize their cake, add to cart, schedule their cake pickup and shop for other groceries and supplies in a single transaction,” wrote Todd Garner, Interim Chief Product Officer at Sam’s Club in a blog post. “Cake ordering has never been easier, and as members use this new tool, we’ll continue refining the experience based on their feedback.”
