Whole Foods Market has announced a nationwide partnership with Too Good To Go, a marketplace dedicated to finding distribution channels for surplus food. Whole Foods customers can now purchase “surprise bags” of surplus food items from more than 450 stores across the U.S. through the Too Good to Go app.
The partnership will help Whole Foods reach its goal of cutting food waste in half by 2030. Customers will have the choice of Prepared Foods Surprise Bags, which contain soups and ready-to-eat meals and are priced at $9.99 for a $30 value, or Bakery Surprise Bags, featuring breads, muffins, scones and cookies and priced at $6.99 for a $21 value.
The Too Good To Go marketplace already encompasses more than 100 million registered users around the world, allowing businesses like Whole Foods to connect with an engaged community that is committed to saving edible food from the landfill.
“We are thrilled to be part of the Too Good To Go community,” said Caitlin Leibert, VP of Sustainability at Whole Foods Market in a statement. “As part of our purpose to nourish people and the planet we continue to invest in new and innovative ways to keep unsold food out of our landfills and empower our customers to make environmentally conscious choices. We’re proud of the work we’ve done — just last year we donated nearly 34 million pounds of food to food programs across the country — but are so excited to expand that work with the help of Too Good To Go.”
