Even as Walmart’s Birkin dupe — dubbed the “Wirkin” — continues to sell like hotcakes, the retailer has announced a new deal that will give its customers access to the real thing. Luxury resale marketplace Rebag has joined the Walmart marketplace, making its selection of secondhand luxury handbags, jewelry and watches available on Walmart.com and the Walmart app.
Rebag’s Brand Shop on the Walmart marketplace will include items from brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, Christian Dior, Fendi, Prada, and yes, Birkin designer Hermès. Additionally, Rebag promised 100 items that will be available exclusively to Walmart customers.
Rebag has been bringing its brand and offerings to new channels, including fellow resale platforms and most recently at Bloomingdale’s, but the Walmart partnership marks its first move into mass market retail. For Walmart the addition of higher-end goods will further its goal of using its marketplace to broaden its product offering beyond its traditional categories and price points.
