Walgreens Plans to Launch Network-as-a-Service Solution at More Than 9,000 Stores

Walgreens Boots Alliance and Verizon have entered a multi-year strategic partnership with Verizon deploying its Network as a Service (NaaS) solution at more than 9,000 Walgreens and Duane Reade locations across the U.S. This initiative will help Walgreens take advantage of 5G technology to improve the in-store experience.

The NaaS configuration is designed to utilize Verizon’s latest connectivity, network and security technologies and combine them into a single solution that can enable digital transformation. The 5G network in particular can support features like augmented and virtual reality experiences that can be delivered directly to shoppers’ devices or offered by an in-store expert using smart wearables, depending on customer preferences.

“[Walgreen’s] digital transformation is focused on modernizing and digitizing our company to provide customers with seamless and personalized shopping experiences, whether in-store, online or in the palm of their hand,” said Mike Maresca, Global Chief Technology Officer at Walgreens Boots Alliance in a statement. “We continue to enhance our business systems and processes both internally and with industry-leading partners to meet the changing needs of Walgreens customers and boost productivity across our workforce.”
