Dollar Tree has named Michael Creedon Jr. as its CEO on a permanent basis. Creedon was named Interim CEO after previous CEO Rick Dreiling, citing health issues, stepped down in early November. Creedon had joined Dollar Tree as COO in 2022 following nearly a decade in leadership roles at Advance Auto Parts.

“Following a search, we are unanimous as a board in our belief that Mike is the right leader for Dollar Tree,” said Edward (Ned) J. Kelly, III, Chairman of the Board at Dollar Tree in a statement. “His deep understanding of the business, coupled with his strategic vision and collaborative leadership, has earned the trust and respect of the entire organization. We have full confidence in Mike’s ability to guide the enterprise to growth and success.”
Creedon will take on responsibility for the more than 16,000 stores under the Dollar Tree and Family Dollar banners as well as the retailer’s 200,000+ associates.
“It’s a privilege to lead Dollar Tree at such a pivotal time,” said Creedon in a statement. “My focus will continue to be on delivering long-term value to our associates, customers and shareholders as a company that is rooted in strong values and operational excellence.”

Following Dreiling’s unexpected departure, Dollar Tree made several C-suite appointments, including appointing Jason Nordin as President of the company’s Family Dollar stores. Dollar Tree has been evaluating alternatives for this struggling banner that could include a sale or spinoff since June 2024.
