Woolworths Improves Supply Chain Sustainability With MetricStream

Woolworths, a supermarket and grocery chain with more than 450 stores in South Africa, has implemented the Sustainability Performance Management Solution from MetricStream.

The Sustainability Performance Management Solution is expected to help Woolworths monitor supplier compliance with sustainability guidelines by measuring metrics and indicators around energy, water, soil and waste management. Woolworths has implemented the solution to replace manual processes and paper-based spreadsheets, making sustainability measurement and management more automated and collaborative.

The solution streamlines a range of sustainability activities, including: supplier registrations, approval and onboarding, supplier self-assessments, third-party audits and certifications. At every stage of the supply chain, supplier information regarding farms, pack houses, secondary suppliers and certifications is stationed in a central repository.

The Sustainability Performance Management Solution will serve as an extension of MetricStream’s Quality Audit Management offering, which Woolworths has used to improve its Total Quality Management (TQM) program to ensure all standards around food are met.

“Our partnership with MetricStream has been critical to the success of our sustainability and supply chain management programs,” said Zyda Rylands, Managing Director for Food at Woolworths. “With MetricStream, we have established a common point of reference to assess, score and track sustainability initiatives across over 900 suppliers worldwide. Increased visibility into sustainability initiatives, coupled with workflow automation and improved collaboration with suppliers is critical to meeting our sustainability goals, and supporting our long-term success as an organization.”
