From August 14 through October 21, Walmart will be hosting free drive-in movie theater experiences in parking lots to provide a contact-free, family-friendly diversion from the pandemic. The movies will be held around the country in a “tour” that will visit 160 Walmart locations.
“We recognize the challenges our customers and their families have faced over the last few months and we wanted to create an experience where they could come together safely to create new memories,” said Janey Whiteside, Walmart’s Chief Customer Officer in a statement. “The Walmart Drive-in is one small way we’re supporting the communities we serve.”
Starting August 5 at 5 p.m. Eastern, consumers can visit TheWalmartDriveIn.com to see exact dates and locations for the movie-going experience. They must make reservations to receive the QR code that will allow them to enter the event.
The movie choices, curated by the Tribeca Film Festival, will include superhero, animated, family and nostalgic films such as Black Panther, The Lego Movie, Friday Night Lights and The Wizard of Oz. Before each feature, moviegoers will see a short film.
