Alibaba has Singles Day and Amazon has Prime Day, and now Walmart is making its own mark on the calendar with an exclusive event to promote the Walmart+ subscription service. On Feb. 24, the retailer unveiled a new online savings event, Walmart+ Exclusive Access, offering members savings of up to 40% on an array of goods, from Melissa & Doug toys to MSI Bravo gaming laptops and NordicTrack Studio Bikes with touchscreen and iFIT. The event has been scheduled to run for three weeks, with new deals offered each day.
The discounts are not available to trial members, since Walmart’s goal is to bolster the service by stressing its value to current members. Walmart+ membership costs $12.95 per month, or $98 per year; Amazon Prime fees increased on Feb. 18, 2022 from $12.99 to $14.99 per month, or $119 to $139 annually.
“Life feels more complicated than ever. Walmart+ is designed to make it easier — giving customers an option to not have to sacrifice on cost or convenience,” said Janey Whiteside, Chief Customer Officer at Walmart in a statement made at the time of the September 2020 Walmart+ launch.
Walmart+ benefits include free delivery from a customer’s local Walmart store on orders of $35 or more, free shipping without order minimums, prescription savings, lower fuel costs at Walmart and Murphy gas stations with member pricing at Sam’s Club fueling centers, streamlined store shopping with mobile scan-and-go service and access to special promotions and events.
