Target has created a Digital Advisory Council to spark and accelerate its digital transformation.
Executives participating in the council have varied tech backgrounds. They include: Ajay Agarwal, Managing Director of Bain Capital Ventures; Amy Chang, CEO and Co-Founder of Accompani and former head of Google Analytics; Roger Liew, Chief Technology Officer of Orbitz Worldwide; and Sam Yagan, CEO of the Match Group and CEO/Founder of OkCupid.
The Digital Advisory Council was formed to help Target improve its omnichannel strategies, and empower the retailer to discover new ways to use technology to innovate and improve the customer experience online and in stores.

“We believe this council can play an important role in Target’s digital transformation – one of our top priorities as a company,” said Casey Carl, President of Omnichannel at Target. “This new group is bringing their tremendous talents and experience to help guide Target’s strategies and tactics. They’re also providing fresh, disruptive ideas that will help us re-invent the Target run for tomorrow’s guests.”
Carl will meet with the Council, as well as the Target.com and Mobile teams, the Enterprise Strategy team and other executives spearheading omnichannel efforts. Each council member will serve two-year terms, with an optional third year, and will be on call to offer guidance to Target tech leaders on a variety of topics.
Over the past year, Target has implemented several digital initiatives, including the Cartwheel mobile app and Target Subscriptions, as well as buy online, pickup in-store. The retailer plans to further strengthen these initiatives, as well as test and roll out new offerings, including same-day delivery and buy online, ship to store.
“Target is pursuing an aggressive omnichannel agenda and we want to go faster,” Carl said. “We’re confident that efforts such as creating the council and adding new engineering talent to our organization will help us achieve our goal of becoming a leading omnichannel retailer.”
