Redbox Acquires Entertainment Assets From NCR

Redbox Automated Retail has agreed to purchase NCR Corporation’s DVD kiosks, selected retailer contracts, and DVD inventory from the company’s entertainment line of business. The acquisition adds approximately 9,000 new retail locations to the Redbox network. As part of the agreement, Redbox will pay close to $100 million for the assets. The company also will purchase NCR hardware, software and services for another $25 million in margin to NCR over five years. “Through this agreement with Redbox, NCR will be better positioned to focus on expanding our business in our targeted industries,” said John Bruno, EVP and CTO for NCR, in a press release. “Additionally, this transaction affords us the opportunity to develop a long-term strategic relationship with Coinstar and partner on delivering new and innovative solutions to the market.”
