Hollywood & Highland Launches Contest To Find ‘The Next Great Pop-Up’

Hollywood & Highland, a Los Angeles shopping center and entertainment destination , has opened up a competition for established and aspiring pop-up store brands: The Search for the Next Great Pop-up.

One brand, designer, artist or creator will have the opportunity to win free retail space within the shopping center during the awards season, as well as $2,500 in prize money toward the build-out and design of the store. The winner can capitalize on the increased exposure and awareness of operating on Hollywood Boulevard alongside retailers such as MAC, Louis Vuitton, Sephora and Victoria’s Secret, along with iconic attractions such as the Dolby Theatre and the TCL Chinese Theatre.

The Search for the Next Great Pop-Up competition launched on Oct. 25 on the Hollywood & Highland web site. A final winner will be announced on Dec. 14. The tentative outline for important dates includes:

  • Application period closes: Nov. 23;

  • Top five contestants shared on social media: Dec. 2;

  • Winner is announced: Dec. 14;

  • Pop-up store opens: Jan. 9; and

  • Pop-up closes at end of day: Feb. 17.

A judging committee will decide the winner based on the brand’s application materials, plan for the space and social media engagement. A panel of guest judges, selected based on their extensive experience in retail and branding, will assist in the selection of the five finalists including the final winner:

  • Grant Legan, Photographer and Art Director at GrantLegan.com;

  • Rosie O’Neill, Co-Founder of Sugarfina;

  • Jonathan Skow, Designer at Mr. Turk;

  • Fashion designer Trina Turk.

Those interested in applying for the competition are required to complete a form and show proof of required licensing and permits (or be willing to readily obtain) from the City of Los Angeles. After the panel of judges selects the top contestants, the remaining concepts will then be shared on social media.

While shoppers and Hollywood & Highland followers can vote on which concept they want to win on social channels, fan vote does not solely determine the winner of the contest. Finalists will be invited to participate in an on-site activation at the Center where they can showcase their products or services to shoppers.
