Former Men’s Wearhouse Head Launches ZTailors Network In 16 States

Men’s Wearhouse founder, former CEO and spokesperson George Zimmer has launched zTailors, an online, on-demand tailor network designed to provide customized alterations services for customers who buy men’s and women’s garments online.

In an interview with The New York Times, Zimmer labeled the company as an “Uber for tailors,” with the service enabling people to book a tailor to visit their home or office for alterations within days at an affordable price.

“A premium tailoring experience shouldn’t be a luxury available to a select few,” said Zimmer, now the Chairman of zTailors. “After four decades of working hand-in-hand with tailors, I saw an opportunity to combine the artistry of their work with the power of technology to expand access to quality tailoring and propel this age-old craft into a high tech and high touch experience for the next generation. With zTailors, anyone can now have access to a personal tailor at their convenience, a service previously available only to the wealthy.”

Upon making an online purchase of a garment such as a suit, shirt, jacket or dress, customers can schedule a complimentary in-home or in-office fitting session through the company web site or mobile app. Once the customer receives the item, the tailor visits their location for a fitting consultation. Within a week, the tailors then perform the appropriate alteration before returning the item to the customer, who will then try on and confirm the fit. Any potential re-fittings come free of change.

Every tailor working with zTailors has a minimum of five years of experience working with retail businesses or independent shops, and is screened and certified for skill level prior to entry into the network. The program already includes approximately 600 tailors, according to the NYT report.

ZTailors is currently available in the following states: Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin. The company expects to deploy the service nationwide by the end of summer 2015.

Exclusive Partnership With Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s

Macy’s and sister department store chain Bloomingdale’s will serve as exclusive partners of zTailors, with pilot programs now offered in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Additional pilots are expected to start in late June 2015 in New York City, San Diego and San Francisco, as well as in the states of Florida, Oregon and Washington. The service will expand into additional markets throughout summer 2015, and will be available nationwide by early fall 2015.

“This is a great example of the outstanding omnichannel shopping experience we are delivering today at Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s,” said R.B. Harrison, Chief Omnichannel Officer at Macy’s. “With zTailors, our online customers can receive the same professional and personalized service they have come to expect from our stores. For those customers who prefer to purchase online, this is a convenient way to look their best at a fraction of the cost of custom clothing.”
