Family Dollar Stores, a convenience retail chain, has signed a five-year contract extension with facilities management services provider SMS Assist.
With the extended contract, SMS Assist will provide maintenance services to the retailer’s more than 7,900 brick-and-mortar locations across 46 states. Additionally SMS Assist’s workload will expand from floor care and exterior services, to day-to-day facilities maintenance, which includes snow removal, landscaping and parking lot care.
SMS Assist and Family Dollar have been partners since 2004.

“At Family Dollar, we continuously look for ways to improve our stores and drive down costs, all in an effort to enhance the shopping experience for our customers,” said Colin McGinnis, SVP of Store Operations at Family Dollar. The technology-driven facilities program from SMS “will allow our team members to spend more time serving customers and providing them with a great shopping experience.”
McGinnis added that the contract extension will help Family Dollar “improve consistency and reduce our overall costs over the next five years.”
