Walmart is in the process of merging the Walmart Grocery and Walmart apps in order to streamline the shopping experience. The retailer already is receiving 50% of all online grocery orders from the new Walmart App, and is continuing to develop the experience with new features:
- Additional Pickup and Delivery Availability: The retailer added new slots for online grocery pickup, including high-risk-only slots, as well as additional information and notifications via app, email and text message;
- Express Delivery: Customers can reserve a no-contact pickup or delivery time, as well as Express Delivery in some areas, to receive their items in less than two hours;
- Prescription Refills, Curbside Pickup And Mail Delivery: Shoppers can use the app to refill prescriptions, including those picked up through the drive-thru, with exclusive access to curbside pickup and home delivery options; and
- Payment And Cash Back: Customers can make touch-free payments at any Walmart register using Walmart Pay from the Walmart App.
Online options have been particularly important for Walmart during the COVID-19 crisis. The need for social distancing caused e-Commerce sales to rise 74% during its latest quarter, with the first several weeks of the outbreak particularly strong for groceries and household essentials.
