The American Independent Business Alliance (AMIBA) has launched a new holiday campaign to motivate shoppers to support locally owned and independent businesses throughout the season. Shop Indie Local is an annual initiative that runs from November 1 to December 31, to encourage shoppers to buy from local businesses, which can recirculate 2X to 4X more dollars back into communities than spending with non-local businesses.
The American Booksellers Association is leading the 2024 Shop Indie Local Holiday Campaign, while 130 independent businesses and networks from 41 states and Canada have pledged to organize neighboring businesses around the Shop Indie Local movement.
All independent businesses, alliances, neighborhood associations, and local economy-minded business networks in the U.S. can join the campaign as partners, giving them access to Shop Indie Local templates and tips for hosting successful sales and events during Plaid Friday, Cider Monday (pro-local versions of Black Friday and “Cyber Monday”) and, of course, Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30, 2024.
“Shop Indie Local Holiday partners raise awareness around the importance of supporting locally owned businesses,” said Jen Risley, AMIBA Director of Operations in a statement. “Together, we inspire more of us to shift our holiday spending to independent businesses and amplify the local economy movement throughout North America.”
