New electronic shelf label (ESL) capabilities allow brick-and-mortar retailers to provide the interactive experiences of online shopping ― directly from store shelves, in real time.
An advanced ESL solution announced in May 2013 by Pricer, a worldwide provider of high-speed digital shelf labels, enables customers to utilize their favorite social media networks to rate, comment about and/or ‘Like’ products displayed in store aisles. By using a smartphone to scan the QR code on an ESL, shoppers can generate feedback as well as access social insights about products. The interactive ESL also displays the total number of Likes, which is updated in real time.
“The Internet, and the rise of online stores, has heavily influenced the expectations of consumers,” said Wyatt Alston, General Manager, Pricer, Inc. “Customers now have immediate access to the online shopping reviews that they have come to rely on while in store. [The interactive ESL] also makes the shopping experience more entertaining as people can share their opinions and provide advice about their favorite products and brands.”
