Sears Introduces Free In-Store Shipping As Part Of Updated Mobile App

Sears has upgraded its mobile app with new features, including the ability to ship purchases for free when using the app in-store. In addition to the app update, Sears recently lowered the minimum purchase threshold for free shipping on qualifying orders from $49 to $35.

Shoppers can activate the “Free Shipping In-Store” feature on the Sears mobile app by opening it in-store with location services enabled. The app will automatically recognize the shopper is inside a Sears store. These shoppers can search for the products they’re looking for, add items to their cart, and then check out to receive free shipping on all products added while in-store.

“In 2015 we’ve seen more than a third of our online traffic come from a mobile phone — a 46% increase from last year,” said Leena Munjal, SVP of Customer Experience and Integrated Retail at Sears Holdings. “Mobile devices are so much a part of our members’ lives and they’re not only researching and sharing, they’re also buying. So it’s more important than ever to have a robust, simple-to-use shopping app with features and services that no other major retailer offers.”

The Sears app includes an in-vehicle pickup, return and exchange feature that enables shoppers to pick up, return or exchange their online purchases for free at any Sears store — guaranteed in five minutes or less — without ever leaving their vehicle.

In addition, the app enables users to initiate layaway contracts and make all payments via the Sears app. Shoppers can play a Wheel of Fortune Holiday Puzzler game directly on the app for a chance to win prizes. The retailer is giving away $1,000 in Sears gift cards to game winners every day through December 11.

With the upgrade, the app provides an eCouponing feature and enhances prior features designed to enable the consumer to find appropriate products, track orders and compare features, prices and user reviews.
