Meijer will introduce a new brick-and-mortar concept with the launch of Meijer Grocery in early 2023. This grocery store model is the Midwest retailer’s first expansion into additional categories since the 2018 introduction of its neighborhood market small concept, Bridge Street Market, in Grand Rapids, Mich.
With the new grocery store concept the retailer aims to provide a “condensed and quick-to-navigate footprint,” which includes a store design featuring parking wrapped around a single corner entrance that maximizes the number of parking spaces near the entryway. Stores will range in size from 75,000 to 90,000 square feet. The new store concept will be introduced at locations in Michigan’s Orion Township and Macomb Township.
Meijer Grocery will align its savings and shopping options with those offered by Meijer supercenters including mPerks, Shop and Scan, Meijer Home Delivery and Pickup. Meijer Grocery will offer products within the following departments:
- Fresh produce;
- Fresh meat counter;
- Bakery equipped with in-store cake decorators;
- Full-service deli;
- Dry grocery;
- Pharmacy;
- Health and beauty care;
- Baby, pets and consumables; and
- Card, party and floral.
“Our customers know they can count on us for the freshest foods and best value, which has always been at the core of what we do at Meijer,” said Rick Keyes, Meijer President and CEO in a statement. “Meijer Grocery will now provide that same combination of freshness and value in a foods-focused format in your local community.”
