LivingSocial Adds Social Gifting, Passbook Integration To Mobile App

LivingSocial has updated its iPhone and iPad apps to provide users with quick and easy access to local deals and events.

Offer pages have been redesigned to load faster and provide more detailed information, including maps and merchant contact information. The app homepage now includes a carousel of images, making it easier for shoppers to sift through featured deals. Shoppers also can find deals using geo-location technology in order to save money on offers nearby.

Other new features include:

  • New offer categories, including restaurants, beauty, events, sports and fitness, which enable app users to quickly access their favorite types of deals;
  • The ability to integrate a Passbook account with the LivingSocial app, so shoppers can store and redeem deals using the Passbook app rather than printing and clipping paper coupons; and
  • A new gifting feature in which consumers can select vouchers at checkout and send them to a friend or family member via email.

With mobile accounting for more than half of LivingSocial traffic and approximately one third of transactions, “it’s clear that the future of LivingSocial is mobile and we want to give our customers the best experience possible,” said Ian Costello, VP of Product Development at LivingSocial. “We are constantly looking for ways to improve our app so that they can find the deals they want quickly and easily. Our improved mobile experience also benefits our merchants by providing an optimized channel for reaching their target customers.”
