Elavon Opens Mobile Innovation Center

Elavon, a provider of payments solutions, has unveiled a new division at its Atlanta headquarters, designed to focus on mobile solutions for both large and small merchants. For larger merchants, new solutions developed at the mobile innovation center will be compatible with Elavon’s complete set of payments and security solutions. Capabilities for smaller merchants will include a variety of options for accepting payments.

“Our focus will be on new technologies that enable merchants to accept payments via mobile devices while also ensuring the ease of use and safety of the transaction from the customer’s perspective,” said Marianne Johnson, EVP of Global Product and Innovation for Elavon. “Payments are moving closer to the concept of the mobile wallet housed on a smartphone or other device.”

The company also reported plans to open a second mobile innovation center in Europe, where it introduced a new EMV payment solution in 2012, called MobileMerchant. MobileMerchant was the first Mobile payments acceptance product in Europe to support EMV, according to Elavon, and received the Mobile Payment Award 2013 at the Merchant Payments Ecosystem event in Berlin.
