Don’t Get Up: Retail Apps Are Coming To Apple TV

Retailers will soon be just an app download away from the ability to open a store in a customer’s home. Mobile commerce platform Shopgate announced that it has added Apple TV to its list of platforms for e-Commerce companies, so retailers with a Shopgate membership can now build an app for Apple TV.1apple-tv-service

Consumers will be able to buy any product from a participating retailer from the comfort of their own couch, through Apple TV. From mobile phones to tablets to 70-inch LCD screens, these retailers can truly be everywhere their consumers are.

Apple TV apps allow retailers to take advantage of Apple’s new large-format interface, which is customizable with drag and drop widgets. Shopgate manages the content by connecting a merchant’s e-Commerce store to their Shopgate account and automatically syncing products and orders. Shopgate’s cart allows customers to complete their purchase in the Apple TV app, or to jump around between devices without starting the purchase process over.

Shopgate featured one of its customers, Gameday Merchandising, in a demo during a launch party on March 12. Gameday Merchandising is a sports and event merchandising company responsible for online sales of popular brands like the Golden State Warriors, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Tough Mudder.

“Both the Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder played back-to-back the night of our launch party,” said Casey Gannon, Vice President of Marketing for Shopgate. “We streamed both games to show how easily fans can quickly order the latest team gear. The shopping experience on the Apple TV is truly a step above what you have on mobile devices and natural addition to the customer buying journey. Looking for a Steph Curry or Kevin Durant jersey on a 70-inch LCD TV is almost like shopping in person, but a lot more comfortable.”
