Carrefour Implements Electronic Shelf Labels

PricerMultinational supermarket chain Carrefour has equipped more than 55,000 Electronic Shelf Labels (ESL) from Pricer into its Carrefour Villeneuve la Garenne store.

With the technology in place, Carrefour will be able to enhance the in-store shopping experience using indoor navigation, mobile shopping and SmartTAG graphic labels.

“Carrefour came to us six months ago searching for ideas to modernize the shopping experience in their stores,” said Arnaud Lecat, VP Store Solutions at Pricer. “Pricer delivered a solution enabling Carrefour to interact with their customers through their smartphones and the ESLs.”

Coinciding with the ESL implementation, Carrefour has created a mobile app for Android and iOS devices, called “C-où”, which allows customers to create shopping lists, search products, access promotions and find recipe ideas. The solution also includes geolocalization, so shoppers can find any product once they step inside the store.

The 55,000 NFC-enabled ESLs will offer centralized price automation, and give customers access to more product information if they place their NFC-enabled smartphone next to the shelf label. Customers also can use their smartphones to “like” a product on Facebook.
