Best Buy, Home Depot Embrace Live Video Shopping for Holiday

Ahh, holiday fare: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, How the Grinch Stole Christmas…and live video shopping from two of the country’s biggest retailers, The Home Depot and Best Buy.

Merry & Bright, Home Depot’s shoppable content series, drops its three 10-minute episodes on Nov. 1, 2023 on Vizio, where they will be accessible through the end of the year. The series is hosted by Grammy-nominated American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, with each episode focused on holiday makeovers for a different family.

Integrated brand and product messaging from the retailer will be combined with shoppable functionality: viewers scanning integrated in-episode QR codes will be directed to a custom “shop the look” page on HomeDepot.com, where they can add products they see onscreen to their shopping carts.

“The shift to streaming is allowing brands to think beyond the traditional :15 and :30-second pot and really become the entertainment,” said Katlyn Wilson, Director of Branded Content Sales and Strategy at Vizio in a statement. “It’s exciting to partner with such an established and innovative brand like The Home Depot, which is taking advantage of these opportunities to deliver emotion-led storytelling, centered around Vizio’s audience interests like holiday content and DIY.”

The Merry & Bright series is produced by Turn Card Content, and the partnership with Vizio was negotiated by The Home Depot’s media agency OMD USA.

Best Buy, working with TalkShopLive, will host three live shoppable video events, kicking off on Nov. 1 with a beauty and wellness-focused session, followed on Nov. 8 by a session on e-transportation and outdoor living and culminating in Yes, Best Buy Sells That on Nov. 15. All the sessions, which will be hosted by Best Buy Virtual Sales Experts, begin at 8 p.m. ET on the TalkShopLive platform.

Viewers will be able to buy items featured in each presentation and check out without leaving the show. Best Buy is encouraging viewers to watch live in order to be eligible for limited-time deals, including the chance to win a $200 Best Buy gift card.
