Throughout August, 7-Eleven is enabling its consumers to add another layer of entertainment value from their brief stop in the convenience store. For the second year in a row, the chain is joining forces with retail kiosk provider Redbox to offer consumers a free one-day DVD rental with every Big Gulp fountain drink purchase.
The offer runs through Aug. 31 at participating U.S. 7-Eleven stores, and promo codes can be redeemed through October 31, 2016.
A peel-off label with a Redbox promo code is attached to the side of Big Gulp promotional cups. The code for the free DVD rental can be entered online or at any of Redbox’s 35,000 U.S. locations.

“We are offering our Big Gulp customers a new level of value, a cold delicious Big Gulp drink at a great price and the ability to feed their desire to watch newly released summer movies,” said Laura Gordon, VP of Brand Innovation and Marketing at 7-Eleven in a statement. “Customers can quench their thirst with a Big Gulp during the hot, busy summer days and relax with a Redbox movie at night.”
While this isn’t a new concept, the addition of the Redbox promotion incentivizes a particular purchase. Retailers can stand to take more initiative to build partnerships with third parties as a way to add value within struggling brick-and-mortar environments.
Before the promotion ends, 7-Eleven and Redbox expect to offer more than 30 million free movie rentals, which would beat the 20 million rentals consumers made during the first promotional period in 2015.
