Birdzi Secures Funding Round, Partners With Three Platform Providers

Birdzi, a provider of personalized digital customer engagement solutions for grocery retailers, has closed a Series A funding round with REVTECH, a retail technology accelerator that focuses on high-growth ventures in retail, grocery and hospitality. Financial terms have not been disclosed.

Birdzi is using the new funding to expand its sales and product teams as it launches a new Personalized Wellness initiative in partnership with ScriptSave, a provider of prescription savings plans for grocery store pharmacies.

The customer engagement solution provider also announced three new partnerships: Bottlefly, Shop to Cook and Sparkle CS Ltd.:

  • Bottlefly provides a virtual sommelier with wine recommendations for individual shoppers. The company uses AI technology to “taste” and create a flavor profile for wine; shoppers take a short survey to establish a taste profile, and Bottlefly makes personalized recommendations based on the shopper’s preferences. Bottlefly and Birdzi have partnered to bring Bottlefly’s wine recommendations into the Birdzi app.
  • Shop to Cook provides an in-store media center kiosk where shoppers can find digital coupons, recipes, the retailer’s weekly ad and more. Birdzi and Shop to Cook’s partnership extends Birdzi’s personalization to the Shop to Cook kiosk for shoppers at Coborn’s and Niemann Foods County Market.
  • Sparkle CS provides the Birdzi app with a real-time feed of transaction data through its POS Bridge application, injecting digital coupons and other personalized offers into the live transaction. Sparkle’s patent-pending app does not require traditional POS integration, providing Birdzi with a solution that works across diverse POS environments to obtain the transaction data that fuels its personalization and digital offerings.

Coborn’s, a Midwestern grocery chain with 120+ retail locations, received a 2018 NGA Creative Choice Award for Integrated Marketing for its implementation of Birdzi technology for its MORE Rewards program. Birdzi made the announcement at the 2018 NGA (National Grocers Association) Show, being held Feb. 11-14 at the Mirage in Las Vegas.
