Amazon has long been known as the Everything Store, and while the platform’s wide selection is one of its biggest selling points, it also can be one of its biggest pain points. To help, Amazon has released a new AI tool in the U.S. called “Help Me Decide” to assist customers deciding between similar products.

For customers who have been browsing through similar products but haven’t yet made a purchase, the “Help Me Decide” button will appear at the top of the product detail page. When tapped, Help Me Decide analyzes browsing activity, searches, shopping history and preferences to recommend the specific item that is right for them.

In addition to a product recommendation based on the customer’s unique history and preferences, shoppers also will see an explanation of why the product was selected, including relevant features, insights from customer reviews and an explanation of how it aligns with their previous purchases and shopping preferences. And in case customers still want to explore additional options, they also will be presented with an “upgrade pick” and a “budget option.”

Outside of when it pops up during ongoing searches, customers also can access the Help Me Decide tool by tapping “Keep shopping for” on their Amazon homepage.

“Help Me Decide continues to build on our commitment to use AI to improve the customer experience by creating tools that make shopping easier and more enjoyable,” said Daniel Lloyd, VP of Personalization at Amazon in a statement.

Among the other AI-powered tools Amazon has recently rolled out to improve the shopping experience are:

  • The Interests feature, which continuously scans Amazon for new products matching a shopper’s personalized prompts and notifies them about items aligned with their interests;
  • Shopping guides that aim to simplify research by bringing together expert guidance and product recommendations for hundreds of product types; and
  • The AI shopping assistant Rufus, which answers shopper questions in real time on things like product details, item comparisons and previous orders.
