Zara Parent Splits CEO And Executive Chairman Roles, Promotes Insider To CEO

Inditex, parent company of Zara, will separate the dual role of CEO and Executive Chairman, with Pablo Isla remaining in the Executive Chairman position and COO Carlos Crespo being promoted to CEO. The appointment will take effect following the Board’s approval in July.

Crespo will report to Isla, and will assume responsibility of Technology (Systems, Data & Digital), IT Security, Logistics and Transportation, Construction & Works, Legal, Procurement and Sustainability. Crespo also will work with Isla to define the retailer’s overall business strategy.

Crespo joined Inditex in 2001 as Head of Accounting Policies, and also has served as Head of the Administrative Management of Inventories and Internal Audit Director. He was named COO in 2018, and oversaw Zara’s integration of new features such as AR displays and click-and-collect robots. Inditex, which operates nearly 7,500 stores worldwide, is presently adopting an RFID-based integrated stock management system so that all physical stores will integrate with its online platform by 2020.
