Lowe’s EVP and Chief Brand and Marketing Officer Marisa Thalberg has left the company after working with the home improvement retailer since February 2020. The executive’s departure is part of a “broader realignment,” according to a Lowe’s spokesperson, and Thalberg’s position will not be filled; instead, the company will integrate its merchandising and marketing functions.

“To improve alignment across the business and position Lowe’s for success, we need deep integration between marketing, merchandising and stores,” said a company spokesperson. “Lowe’s has realigned marketing under merchandising, led by Bill Boltz, EVP, Merchandising. As a part of this alignment, Marisa Thalberg has left Lowe’s. Jen Wilson, who has more than 20 years of combined experience in marketing and merchandising, has been promoted to SVP, Enterprise Brand and Marketing, reporting to Bill.”

As part of its realignment strategy, Lowe’s will also move its Pro organization under the store operations division. Tony Hurst, SVP of Pro Services and International will now report directly to Joe McFarland, EVP of Stores.

To align its online and technology efforts, Lowe’s noted that Mike Shady, SVP of Online will now report to Seemantini Godbole, EVP and Chief Digital and Information Officer.

Lowe’s is among many large retailers that have been shaking up their executive leadership over the course of the year through different realignment strategies to create leaner teams and refresh their businesses. In July 2022, Gap President and CEO Sonia Syngal left the company, which followed the April 2022 departure of Old Navy President and CEO Nancy Green. Throughout 2022, executive departures have also occurred across retail at a number of companies including Dollar Tree, GameStop and Starbucks.
